The Art of Living (for absent friends or those feeling absence)

Mortality has an invisible expiration date
One given to us at birth
We cannot see it or know when this time may be up
So we live

Some of us face no obstacles
Save for a few mundane and routine
Others face illness, challenge, struggle
But they live

Finding joy in this one life we are given
Should be a somewhat simple task
But we are, after all, human and flawed
As we live

Life does not come with a scale of proportion
Much as some try to find it
Bad and good rarely balance each other
But we live

Eventually the target day for departure becomes more clear
Still unknown but pending on the horizon
Perched at our windowsill reminding us of our humanity
We still live

One day we see others go
Fear or sadness may set in where faith is absent
Realities of life are often difficult to bare
But we live

Someday we will go
Each to fulfill our preordained destiny
Leaving one life to begin yet another
We will live
Again
