Juan 50: The Power Of Once

When I was writing the posts for the Juan 50 project, I tabled this one because it was, I felt, too obscure. After going through yet another death in our family these past few days, I realized that this depicted a celebration about the people who make the most of the dash between the two key dates given them.  With this new outlook, I felt comfortable putting this composition out there for you to read.

We’re born
We die
Somewhere in between we live
We see
We hear
Somewhere in between we live
We laugh
We cry
Somewhere in between we live
With this one gift
We fly

We leap
We fall
Somewhere in between we live
We answer
We call
Somewhere in between we live
We bare
We hide
Somewhere in between we live
With this one gift
We soar

To places far unknown
High on life’s sweet nectar we are prone
To consume
Destiny flavored by
The moments we’re allowed
To watch love bloom
Writing the open pages of our story
The words that we are given are enough
For in the paradox of these eleven lines
The greatest gift we have on hand
Is how the power of once we’re bound to understand

We smile
We frown
Somewhere in between we live
We love
We touch
Somewhere in between we live
We blame
We forgive
Somewhere in between we live
With this one gift
We rise

To places far unknown
High on life’s sweet nectar we are prone
To consume
Willing to savor
The moments we’re allowed
To make love bloom
Reading the parted pages of our story
The words that we are given are enough
For in the paradox of these eleven lines
The greatest gift we have on hand
Is how the power of once we finally understand

The power of once
Is the greatest gift given to man
